Cooling off
He's doing it too. The same thing they always do. Sigh. Not even a divorced goofball with a kid is attracted to me long enough to find out what I'm really like.

Maybe he sensed that you were trying to slow the pace a bit (which could be interpreted as you "cooling off") and he decided to do the same? Unwise to make assumptions, it is.
